Miami Museum Month

Get ready this week for the ultimate museum homage in the city of Miami. During the month of May, a bevy of events will take place to celebrate the art, design, and culture that these museums contain. The month, known as Miami Museum Month, will offer all visitors and locals a “Buy One, Get One Free” admission at participating museums. What more can you ask for?

Wed, May 11th -  The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum

Creative Visions 2011 Opening Reception—Opening reception for Creative Visions 2011 exhibition, on view through May 20, 2011. This unique partnership between the Miami-Dade County District 11 Schools and the Frost Art Museum culminates in an annual exhibition of student art created throughout the year. (Event runs from  6-8 p.m.)

Thurs, May 12 - Lowe Art Museum

En Route Pour AixEnProvence, a lecture by featured artist Alice Goldhagen about her work. $5 admission. Free for Museum members. (Event runs from 3-5 p.m.)

Thurs, May 12 - The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum

The Frost Art Museum and the FIU Department of Religious Studies present SANTERIA & THE ARTS with Natalia Bolivary. This lecture will be followed by a light reception at 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. (Event begins at 7 p.m.)

Fri, May 13 - The Wolfsonian—FIU

Performance: Songs for All — To celebrate the Art for All exhibition on view, Florida Grand Opera Young Arts will perform a range of British music from the 1920s to 1960s. Selections include works by Vaughn Williams, Benjamin Britten, Herbert Howells, and more. Join us for a guided tour of the exhibition at 6pm prior to the performance. Co-presented with the Florida Grand Opera. Free. (Event begins at 7pm)

Sat, May 14 - Coral Gables Museum

French Film TBA provided by Alliance Française. $5 admission. Free for Museum and AF members. (Event begins at 5 p.m.)

Sat, May 14 - HistoryMiami

Little Havana Cuban Cuisine & Culture Walk Brigade 2506 torch monument across from Nuevo Siglo Market, 1305 SW 8 Street, Miami HistoryMiami invites you to explore Cuban culture with guide Pepe Menendez. Walk through this dynamic neighborhood, as you sample the food and coffee. Visit a botanica, Domino Park and see neighborhood social clubs. (Event runs from 10 am - 1 pm)

Sat, May 14 - HistoryMiami

Family Fun Day: Sunshine State Souvenirs - For years, tourists have flocked to our region and returned home with mementos, such as those on view in our latest exhibit, Souvenir Maps and Plates of Florida. Come to HistoryMiami and have a look at them and enjoy making your own kitschy souvenirs! (Event runs from noon – 5 p.m.)

Fisher Island South Beach Boat Tour - Bayside Marketplace, 401 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami Join History Miami and listen to scandalous and amazing South Beach stories while on a leisurely cruise of Biscayne Bay with Dr. Paul George. See star-studded Star Island’s waterfront mansions, and Palm Island, before crossing to fabulous Fisher Island for a close-up view of this exclusive enclave. (Event runs from 10 am - 1 p.m.)

Sun, May 15 - Jewish Museum of Florida

Jews in Justice: Annual Jewish American Heritage Month Observance Former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, Gerald Kogan, will moderate a panel honoring the service of all Jews who have devoted their professional lives to the public to sustain the rule of the law. Panelists: former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, Arthur England; (Ret.) Assistant Director Miami-Dade Police Dept. Irving “Red” Heller; Dept. of Justice, Southern District of Florida, Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Gilbert, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge A. Jay Cristol and Broward County Judge Jane D. Fishman. (Event begins at 2:00 p.m.)

Thurs, May 19 - Coral Gables Museum

Cézanne’s Trail, a lecture by Alice Goldhagen on the life and work of French artist and Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, resident of Aix-en- Provence, sister city to Coral Gables.$5 admission. Free for Museum members. (Event begins at 7 p.m.)

Sun, May 22 - Jewish Museum of Florida
