The time has come for Ryan McGinness’ next installment of Women: The Blacklight Series. We covered his previous exhibits within this series at Ryan’s premiere at Miami’s Art Basel last December and at Le Bain at The Standard, New York during Armory Week (missed it? Check out the video from that event). The Standard is proud to present Ryan’s latest installation on the west coast at The Standard, Hollywood and The Standard, Downtown LA with installations, events, live drawings, and exclusive Blacklight Nudie Cards.

The Blacklight Nudie Cards, the first of their kind, are a full deck of poker-sized playing cards based on vintage nudie cards. The poker-deck-meets-graphic-Kama-Sutra-spirit with Ryan’s iconic graphics emit only a frequency in the invisible range of 350-370n and best enjoyed under blacklight. “My use of fluorescent paint under the blacklight color spectrum is a strategy to force a singular time/space experience with the work”, shares Ryan. “That is to say, the work must be experienced in person, and cannot be fully appreciated through reproductions via jpgs or printed catalog pages.”

The Blacklight Nudie Cards ($35) are sold exclusively at all The Standard Shops or online at www.shopthestandard.com. We also have posters available, and for the super fans, there’s a limited edition silkscreen print.
May 16th will kick off this west coast art extravaganza, with a series of exhibitions featuring Ryan’s recent work, drawings, sculptures and sketches at 7 locations in LA. The Standard, Hollywood will host the 3rd iteration of the Women: The Blacklight Paintings in the Purple Lounge and installation in the vitrine behind the front desk. Expect a “Drawing Salon Party” where Ryan will share his work and where you - yup, you! - will be welcome to try your own hand at drawing these same nudie women. The Standard, Downtown LA will also get a dose of nudie ladies on their 6th Street Mural.
