Last week, I got a letter with BIG news from my friend Marina in Varese, Italy. She was coming to NY for Fashion Week, and where else do you think she’d stay but with me at The Standard, New York? She’s an arbiter of all things chic. Would I have friends that were anything less?
She’s an interesting one that Marina, and I can’t wait for you to meet her.
She and I met in Milan last summer. I was on an annual shopping trip to the fashion capital, and I was heading to the Missoni store to find the perfect knit for my mother. She loves a stripe.
As I approached the store, there was this girl sitting out front, her head blocking the outfit in the window which I saw from across the street.
There was something grandiose about her. Something larger than life that I couldn’t put my finger on. Actually, it was so large I would have had to put my whole hand on it really to get the full grasp of its magnitude. That’s just Marina.
While inside, we ran into my friend Margherita Missoni who Marina coincidentally was friends with through her fashion musings on her blog, All The Way Up Here. We talked. We chatted. We had an espresso, and I was on my way.
Marina and I now talk all the time, and she’s just told me that she’s coming to New York and working with Target and Missoni on the new collection they’re launching together. She’ll be covering shows and events and taking her signature street style photos, like the one above. (I hope her head doesn’t get any bigger after this trip, just between you and I.)
She arrives on the 7th, and I know you’re gonna love meeting her. Actually, you’re not going to be able to miss her. She’s MAJOR.
