Don't Question Stan, Marina

Sep 07 2011 / standard staff

I already mentioned that my dear friend Marina, an Italian blogger, was coming to visit me from Italy. The moment she arrived at The Standard, New York, it was like the first moment we met. I walked her upstairs to her room and we discussed while she unpacked. Her Missoni clothes were to Stan D’IE for!

We met outside of the Missoni store in Milan, Italy, but you’re from Varese, just north. What brought you to the big city that day? I’ve been visiting Milan my whole life. My grandmother is from there, and my mother and I were taking a stylish girls weekend at her house when we met. Call it fate that I tripped over my long hinged legs and stumbled into you outside the Missoni store! In mean, where else would I be?!

You’ve come to New York City to cover fashion week on behalf of Target & Missoni. How did those stars align for you?! I have no idea how the stars aligned. I guess I am just one lucky doll! Not even in my dreams back on my shelf in Varese could I imagine something so amazing happening. When I professed my love of Missoni to Margherita Maccapani Missoni in a letter I had no idea we would end up as BFF’s or that I would be at fashion week IN NYC on behalf of Target and Missoni! I am still pinching my porcelain skin. Oops, there goes a fleck of porcelain.

What inspired you to take the jump into the cutthroat world of fashion journalism? My mother, my style icon, has such beautiful clothes and is sooooo fabulous. One day I decided I wanted to be as fashionable as she is. I mean, why not?! I love everything stylish. So what better way to enter the fashion world than to blog about what you love? No shelf was going to hold this doll back.

Why did you choose to stay at The Standard, New York during your first visit? (And don’t say that I forced you to…) How could I pass up the wonderful opportunity you gave me to stay at the Standard! Everyone who is stylish stays there. And such a wonderfully tall building. I feel so at home!

What is the one thing that you are most excited to do while in New York? (Besides go to the Boom Boom Room…) I am excited to do and to see everything in NYC! This city is A-MA-ZING. Of course I am excited about fashion week and the Missoni for Target collection. But what I absolutely must do before heading back to Varese is try one of these famous New York bagels. I know it’s a no no to be seen eating carbs but when in Rome…

I’ve noticed that whoever meets you on the street, really looks up to you. What is it about you that you think people are attracted to? When you’re an extra tall doll like myself, most people look up at you, even all the tall girls in stilettos. It’s hard not to. Personally, I think everyone is totally checking out my fabulous outfits! I would be!

A lot of people in fashion have their head in the clouds. One might say that of you but for different reasons. What do you think is the general state of the fashion industry today? Obviously I love the fashion industry. It’s sooooo inspiring! Just look how it’s changed my life! Fashion got me off the shelf, to NYC and gave me an awesome new wardrobe. The fashion industry is glamorous, chic and of course A-MAZ-ING. I mean, just look at all these fabulous people. What else could it be?
