More LA Art Weekend Fun: Joseph La Piana's "LA Text Project2"

Sep 29 2011

It’s here! LA’s art weekend is finally here! You should already know by now that both the PULSE and Art Platform art fairs will effectively take over all of downtown Los Angeles this weekend, September 30 to October 2. The Standard, Downtown LA is right in the middle of the action with art parties, satellite installations, a new 6th Street Mural by Dave Kinsey, new video work from Shannon Plumb, and a site-specific installation from Freeman and Lowe.

On top of all this art fair fun at our hotel, we just had to give a shout-out to one of our other favs happening this weekend: The Andy Warhol Museum presents Joseph La Piana’s The Los Angeles Text Project2. Seriously, you must check it out. An evolution of La Piana’s art piece in the 2011 Venice Biennale, The Los Angeles Text Project2 is a deconstructive series of four sculptures upon which the poetry of Whitman and Ginsberg has been layered to help the viewer analyze the American condition. We’ve been long time fans of anything The Warhol Museum touches. Speaking of, have you seen the Warhol Poppy Print drapes at The Standard, Hollywood?.

Curated by The Warhol Museum’s Director, Eric Shiner, La Piana’s The Los Angeles Text Project2 will be on view from September 30 to October 2 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at 120 South Santa Fe Avenue in downtown LA.
