September Flashbacks

Oct 03 2011

October is finally here! Before we swap out our closets for fall clothes, we’d like to take a look back at September, our last bastion of heat which encompassed Fashion Week, the Quiksilver Pro Tournament beach chronicles, and tons of frisky outdoor parties at Le Bain. Here’s “the greatest hits” from September…

A Night to Remember… Lykke Li plays at The Top of the Standard

For starters, the mayhem at Le Bain was off the Richter scale in September. There were performances by Etienne de Crécy, Spankrock, and one of London Dance Music heroes Sinden. Our weekly party for ETE D’AMOUR brought New York icon Tommie Sunshine and two ex-punks (Ron Morelli and DJ Spun) devoted to dance music called Let’s Play House. The birth of the new issue of LOVECAT was launched within our walls as well, as well as visit from Philipp Jung, one half of luminous Berlin duo M.A.N.D.Y. L-Officiel-Hommes also celebrated in style at Le Bain. Our Grand Finale to Fashion Week was created by filmmaker Casey Neistat in our scenic gym. Meanwhile our LA venue, the Purple Lounge played home to Jeremy Ellis’ turntable trickery.

Our favorite part of the month was the kick-off party for Fashion Week, with an intimate heatseeking performance by Lykke Li with DFA’s James Murphy manning the turntables – with a collection of images that graduated into our Gallery section. Our party for Purple Mag and BLK DNM falls into fav memories also.

Fashion Week also gave us the opportunity to present collections within our building, including works by Gregory-Parkinson, Anna Sheffield, and Anna-Laub, and Chadwick-Bell with our partners at Milk Stuidos. Our regular blog column, “Secret Travel Item”, evolved into a video series with the first episode guests Olivier Zahm and Lisa Armstrong.

The folks at Paper Magazine seem to agree with our party stripes. We were blushing pink at the sweep of awards we garnered at the PAPER Magazine Annual Nightlife Awards with little baby trophies snagged by our people for “Best New Party” (On Top at Le Bain), “Best Hotel With Nightlife Scene”, and “Best Door Person” a People Choice Award for Le Bain’s Ian Bradley.

We also spent a lot of time at the beach last month covering all of our hotel guests in town for the surf competitions hosted by Quiksilver. We chatted with pro surfers Stephanie Gilmore, Rosy Hodge, Todd Richards, and the man himself, Quiksilver CEO, Bob McKnight.

Other festivities that peppered the month were New York’s Wine & Food Festival with a visit from Chef Extraordinaire Ferran Adria at our Feast Talks event. Late September also marks the celebration of the infamous Oktoberfest, which was celebrated in our Biergarten traditional beer and pretzels.

The Standard Miami is for Rest and Recharge

The Standard Miami remains our sanctuary to clean out and center the body and soul with retreats such as Christy Nones. September was national yoga month so we had goodies lined up for our guests as well as private Cabana deals – still available through November by the way! - while teaching you how to green juice properly. Miami parties included the closing of Summer hosted by Havaianas and the localized Ping Pong Tournament.

Interviews were top of mind with many fascinating chats with luminaries. Including Tatiana von Furstenberg who was premiering her new movie Tanner Hall instead of diving into Fashion Week madness, whereas Andre Saraiva was jumping headfirst into the glamorous festivities. Stan was busy with interviews as well chatting it up with Bruce Weber.

Whew. Ok. Let’s all take one collective sigh and sleep off the parties…or not! Stay tuned for all the amazing things we have lined up for you for the fall.
