Jose Parla Show Extended in Los Angeles

(Jose Parla’s Character Gestures Extends One More Week)

Recently, we wrote about Jose Parla’s striking art opening entitled Character Gestures at Los Angeles’ OHWOW gallery. Having contributed as a Standard collaborator (check out the beautiful scarves he made for us here!), we adore Jose’s usage of layers and emotion. His strength is broaching the idea of how we experience urban landscapes and the visual language of mark making.

With his current exhibit, Character Gestures, there’s a further shift stemming from a deeper engagement with process and abstraction. Comprised of paintings, mono-transfers and installations, this exhibition builds on the artist’s earlier work that dealt with the concept of psychogeography and depicted distressed architectural surfaces layered with calligraphic text.

Today The Standard presents this exclusive video with a visual tease of the exhibit, illustrating Jose’s handiwork while birthing his cement infused pieces. It’s been recently announced that due to popular engagement, the exhibit has now been extended one more week through October 29, 2011. If you have not witnessed the works of art in person, there’s a few more days to treat yourself to the experience.

OH WOW Gallery is located at 937 N. La Cienega Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90069. Running through Saturday, Oct 29, 2011 with the hours from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm. For more info, visit the gallery online at OH-WOW.com
