The Spa Members at The Standard hotel in Miami frequent the spa, pool, and classes so often, that we totally consider them to be a part of our Standard family. Take Ewa, for example. Totally chic, Flavorpill editor who you might find relaxing by the pool, or more likely, in tons of yoga classes. Ewa tells us a little more of how she came to be a Standard Spa Member…

The Standard: Tell us something about yourself - what do you do and how you ended up living in Miami?
I’m a writer and editor for the online culture guide Flavorpill. I came here by accident. I lived in NYC and my boss sent me to Miami for a few months, but that was two years ago… I still can’t imagine going back anytime soon.
We have recently reached 500 members in our club, which means in addition to our hotel guests, we have a nice family of locals too. How would you describe the locals who frequent The Standard and the vibe of the other members?
The members come in all stripes and colors. Some people drink rose wine by the pool all day, some are devout yogis, some come to be social, others to be alone. I met one of my best friends here, the incredible Angela Munoz.
Would you say you spend most of your time in the Pool? Hamam? Or the Gym?
Pool and hamam, for sure. I’m a sucker for the cold plunge, the waterfall massage, and hamam meetings.
Have you taken on any “out of box” fitness training since becoming a member?
I started practicing Budokon a few months back. It’s an amazing mix of martial art, yoga and animal movement invented by Cameron Shayne. He’s a member too, actually.
In terms of mental well-being, healing, and general peace of mind… how would you rate your evolution in this area since becoming a member?
I was so stressed out when I first arrived from New York. The Standard was immediately my favorite spot, but in the beginning I was mostly drinking mojitos by the pool. Then I became a wellness member last summer and I started practicing yoga and meditation every day. A great evolution, I would say.
In terms of food – can you tell us your favorite dish that you love ordering off our menu?
Living lasagna is a delicious vegan course. The mussels and the mahi-mahi sandwich are always tasty, and I love the intense ginger shots.
We have lots of different employees but is there one trainer or just staffer that you’d like to give a shout-out to? someone who is a friendly face that always takes good care of ya?
There are so many. Thanks Jaya for introducing me to Jivamukti yoga, Ken von Roenn III for inventing (and teaching me) the beautiful Skanda Yoga practice, Miguel at the spa desk for giving me a salt bath when I was sore from practice yesterday, and a big hug to wonderful Renea Perry who’s been yoga coordinator until recently.
What are your top 3 favorite places in Miami? – places where you can relax, unfold, and take in the beautiful view?
The Beach, The Standard and my balcony.
