Tomorrow is December 1, and for anybody who knows anything, that means that either a) you’re already in Miami Beach, b) you’re headed to Miami Beach or c) you’re at home beyond annoyed because you can’t get to Miami Beach. What is in Miami Beach tomorrow, you ask? Only the start of the 10th annual Art Basel Miami Beach art fair!

For the past decade, the world’s most fabulous people from the worlds of art, fashion, entertainment, business and hospitality flock down to the city of thongs (I’m staking claim to that name) for four days of art, parties, dinners and all around revelry. As is the case every year, I go down because The Standard Spa, Miami Beach is the mecca for all things Stan D’Amazing.

As in true Standard, Miami fashion, the hotel will be overrun with more dinners, parties, book signings, installations and top secret goings on. I can’t tell you about all of them right at this one very moment, but don’t worry, come back to me in a day or two and we’ll have all the information you’re looking for!

With so much going on this week, it’s impossible to cover everything all in one place, so let’s review the most important things I think you’ll need to know…

KEITH SONNIER - In partnership with The Pace Gallery, The Standard, Miami will be presenting two neon sculpture installations by Keith Sonnier entitled KGama, 2007 and Mastadon, 2008 and inspired in large part by Africa and the herd animals of the Safari. Sonnier employs the elegant, gestural lines of neon light to evoke these wild animals. Funny. I do the same thing at home.

SIX SCENTS - As in years past, The Standard Hotels have once again joined forces with Six Scents to present a series of art installations and to produce two new custom fragrances exclusive to the hotels. Like last years popular Olaf Breuning boobs or our art videos in the Hamam, this year we’re going to install ‘The Hanging Garden of Babylon’ in the Hamam at The Standard Spa. The new scents, ‘Verde’ and ‘Incense Into The Sea’ translate the gardens at the Miami property into fragrances or rather, a fantastic olfactive portrait. Available at The Standard Shop in Miami or online.

MIA MORETTI - Since fall’s Fashion Week playlist was such a hit, we decided that we definitely need a soundtrack for this art week. The gorgeous DJ and friend of Le Bain will be creating an exclusive Art Basel 2011 playlist for The Standards. Check back soon because you won’t want to miss out on this.

JOHHNY’S TO DO LIST - Everyday this week through the weekend, our family friend and New York based journalist, Johnny Misheff, will be posting his Basel To Do list detailing all the things you need to know and do during the mayhem that is art frazzle. No one knows better what to do than Johnny, so listen carefully.

LIVE UPLOADS - As with every major moment during the year, we at The Standards want to know what YOU’RE up to just as much as you want to know our game. That’s why we created the Community section of our Culture site. All you have to do is snap a photo with your phone, drop a caption in the subject line and then email it to Live@StandardHotel.com. We’ll push your most creative works through to the page for the whole world to see. But keep it clean people. This is a family affair. :)

SURVIVAL GUIDE - We’re a spa hotel after all, so stay tuned for the most essential tips from our team of skin, meditation, yoga, nutrition, and all around wellness experts to make sure you don’t look like it’s post-Art Basel during Art Basel.

ONE STOP SHOPPING - With all the madness we know you’re going through right now, we realize it’s difficult to keep up, so make sure you check in to our Basel Culture page so you can see all things Basel all in one place. Why do we make it so easy for you???

So that’s it for now. We’ll have so much more coming your way, so like I said (and I know you always do whatever I say), keep checking back in regularly. You’ll be Stan D’evastated if you miss out.

xoxo
Stan
