Graphic of the Day: Dali's Surrealist Cookbook

Jan 17 2012

Published in 1971 and officially entitled, Les Diners de Gala, this spectaculiar “cookbook” filled with elaborate food still lifes, original drawings and paintings by “The divine Salvador Domenech Philippe Hyacinthe DALI,” goes beyond description. Fanciful, grotesque, in short, surreal. Here’s how they describe the actual recipes: “All the recipes in this cookbook, never before published, have been elbarorated with great precision by a “chef” whising to remain in the most secret anonymity. Lasserre, Maxim’s, La Tour d’Argent and Le Buffet de la gare de Lyon have graciously bestowed upon us some highly gastronomical recipes which make the renown of the French cuisine.”

Some one needs to do a Julie and Julia type blog with this cookbook, preparing recipes like “Thousand year old eggs,” “Steamed and stuffed larks,” and we are dying to try, “Pheasant Raphaël Ravenga” Mmmmmmm.
