A Pre-Grammys Analysis

Feb 08 2012

Have you ever taken the time to read through the list of Grammy categories and nominees from start to finish? Take it from us, it is overwhelming to say the least. So you don’t have to waste any hours of your life contemplating the difference between Record of the Year and Song of the Year (HELP US WE STILL DON’T GET IT) we sifted through the list to provide our in depth analysis so you know what to expect heading into The Grammys this weekend.

Number of songs named after already established musicians - 3: Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5; Barbra Streisand - Duck Sauce; Public Enemy Number 1 - Megadeth. Sidebar, Megadeth is still a band?

There are a large number of possible Duplicate Grammy Categories – Can anyone explain to us the difference between:

  • The aforementioned Record vs. Song of the Year (seriously, WTF?)

  • Best R&B Performance vs. Best Traditional R&B Performance (uh…)

  • Best Americana Album vs. Best Folk Album (the nuance is beyond us)

  • Best Instrumental Composition vs. Best Instrumental Arrangement (now they’re just messing with us)

Our Favorite Categories We Never Knew About Until Now: A tie between New Age, Best Regional Mexican or Tejano Album and Best Tropical Latin Album, which also gets our award for most specific category.

Nominees in the Same Category That We’d Most Like to See Duke it Out: Tina Fey and Betty White, though obviously we don’t want either to get injured.

Biggest Bummer: The fact that the younger half of the nominated Amy Winehouse/Tony Bennett duet is no longer with us.

Most Boring Category: Best Album Notes (weird, right?)

Artist Most Likely to Pull an Arcade Fire: Skrillex! Can’t wait to see Twitter blow up over this one.

FYI, we predict Skrillex will KILL IT at the Grammys this year and the less informed won’t have a clue who he is.

Enjoy The Grammys everyone!
