Gather round lil’ cowboys, its time to mosey on over for another installment of The Standard, Hollywood’s Desert Nights. Held every Wednesday, each week we bring together the best of LA’s acoustic music scene. The music is great, the drinks are strong, and the vibe is mellow.

Yellow Red Sparks: Yellow Red Sparks started off as the solo acoustic moniker for singer-songwriter Joshua Hanson a few years back in the small village of Green Tree, California. In 2009, Joshua self released an EP on iTunes entitled, “Simply Put ME In YOUR Place”. The vocals and guitars for the EP were recorded live and the entire approach for the record was simple and with minimal. Yellow Red Sparks creates music with a timeless feel, a strong emphasis on lyrical content and also provides the listener with an open and honest perspective to raw universal emotions that come with the everyday trials of life. production. Since then, YRS has evolved into a 3 piece indie folk band and has created a sound of their own.

Frankie Palmer: Frankie Palmer plays original acoustic folk music, drawing influences from the American Depression era to ‘70s folk singers. His songs bring the listener through a dream-like state of imagery and storytelling, created through melodic finger styles, alternate tunings and whispered melodies.

Charlie Clark (of Sotto): Sotto describes themselves as, a Scottish Japanese Quarter Mexican Combo. “Sotto was born on a hot night in Atwater Village brought together by an earthquake and a barking dog. Like any good pediatrician recommends, Sotto focuses on simplicity and natural sound from the perspective of three songwriters and one percussion doctor melding into a furiously quiet unit”

What is Desert Nights?

Desert Nights is a weekly gathering at The Standard, Hollywood, hosted by KCRW’s DJ Valida. Every Wednesday, Valida curates three acoustic musical acts to perform a set in the Cactus Lounge. The vibe is warm and intimate, evoking an impromptu jam in a musician’s living room. The music begins at 7:30pm, it’s always free and always a good time. Guaranteed.
