Made in LA Shines the Spotlight on Los Angeles Art

Jun 07 2012

It will be a long time before anyone forgets The Getty’s massive Pacific Standard Time undertaking last fall. Its aggregate of California artists in galleries and museums spanning southern California solidified LA’s spot on the art scene. As a result, other LA institutions have been sparked to create their own ambitious endeavors. And this summer’s Made in LA, organized by the Hammer Museum in collaboration with LA><ART is no slouch in comparison.

The opening event at The Hammer

Showing at the Hammer, LA><ART and LA Municipal Gallery at Barnsdall Park, the exhibition focuses on up and coming and under recognized LA artists in video, film, sculpture, performance, and painting, and was designed to capture trends and movements coming out of LA’s dynamic art community.

July 13-15 will mark the first Venice Beach Biennial (a silly nod to the epic Venice Biennial) and will feature 25-30 artists with work for sale lining the boardwalk. Made in LA will be up at all three venues through September 2. For more information visit www.madeinla2012.org.
