Tell us about yourself, Tyler!
Let’s see. I grew up in Chicago then moved to Los Angeles where I attended UCLA for theater. About a year ago I moved to New York for a new adventure and found myself at The Standard Grill, where I’ve been working ever since. I’m also working on a new screenplay, and my film, The Bunglers is having its New York debut this month. Oh, and I’m performing in a new play!
Wow, keeping busy. What’s the play called?
The American Play. Everyone should come see it! I’m in it thanks in part to The Standard, actually. One of the best parts about working here is that after our shifts the whole staff orders a feast and we all eat together. A few months ago I was sitting at the kitchen counter and my co-worker walked in and said he’d just auditioned for this awesome play and told me they were looking for more actors and that I should audition, too. I got a role along with two other friends from The Standard. Basically, we took over the whole production. It just shows what great and creative people are working here, and how supportive everyone is.
Where do you like to hang after work?
My favorite place is in Brooklyn. It’s this tiny little cocktail lounge in Williamsburg called Maison Premier. It has a gorgeous garden and delicious drinks.
Your ideal meal at The Standard Grill?
The Charred Spanish Octopus to start, the Duck Breast for my main, and Banoffee Pie for dessert.
If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
I’d move to Madrid where my family is from and write a screenplay about my grandmother who grew up there. She has a beautiful story. I’d get inspired by listening to Flamenco music, make friends with the shop owners around my neighborhood and sit on my balcony and just enjoy life.
